Name and Location of Risk Mt. Nebo Baptist Church 911 E. Main
Type of Risks? (e.g. church, school...) Church
What are the Fire Risks?

(note details of any flammable liquids, combustible materials, ignition sources and persons at risk)
This wood frame early 1900’s church is an unprotected property with high occupancy on Sundays and Wednesdays and during special events.

Escape provisions for the elderly and physically challenged is limited at best.
Can a fire be detected in a reasonable time and people warned?

(note fire detection system or other means by which a fire can be detected)
There are smoke alarms located throughout the church that will warn occupants of an emergency.
Can occupants get out safely?

(Note exits, escape routes and possibly problems of the occupants limiting their escape)
Exits are located throughout the building for use in case of an emergency. However, there needs to be people identified to assist the elderly and physically challenged during the emergency evacuation.
Are there adequate firefighting resources available to mitigate this risk?

(e.g. engines, aerials, water…)
Limited resources.
Our single station fire department with its limited resources will need mutual aid companies to assist with any major event at this location. Our firefighting members will be consumed with rescue and evacuation.
Do occupants know what to do in case of a fire?

(e.g. fire escape plan, practiced fire drills...)
As an identified fire risk we will need to work with church officials and gain cooperation from the congregation to identify best escape routes and practice drills to ensure a safe and assisted escape in the event of an emergency.

Additional Comments

The majority of the congregation of this church is comprised of elderly members of the community. Many of which are physically challenged in some way. Capable helpers need to be identified to assist these individuals out of the building.

Recommendations: Fire safety programs identified are fire exit drills will be presented to the church leadership in order to establish regular fire drills.
