Anytown, Virginia Fire Department supports
“Change Your Clock—Change Your Battery” Campaign

Anytown, Virginia - The Anytown, Virginia Fire Department once again reminds you when you change your clock for Daylight Savings Time, that this is also an excellent time to change the batteries in your homes smoke detectors.

This year the Anytown Fire Department is making another important suggestion I regard to the older 9-volt battery powered smoke detectors in your home. If your present smoke detectors are powered with 9-volt batteries and are over 5 years old; we have a suggestion. The Anytown Fire Department encourages you to consider installing the new long-lasting, lithium battery powered smoke detectors in your home. These detectors are powered with a battery which last upward of 10 years and eliminates the need to change your battery every six months. This updated technology will both save you money over the 10 year period, as well as provide you continual protection. We still remind you to test the smoke detector each month, as well as give them a monthly dusting.

With over 3,000 citizens dying from fires in the home across the United States each year, having properly operating smoke detectors installed through your home will help ensure your family is properly protected against fires in the home. In addition to maintaining the smoke detectors in your home, we also stress the importance of developing a home escape plan and practicing it with your family on a monthly basis.

If you need assistance in either of these areas, please schedule an appointment with the Anytown Fire Department through the contact listed on the top of this press release.
