Home in Franklin catches on fire after break-in

FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — Police say they were responding to a call of a home burglary in Franklin, but when they arrived at the home it was engulfed in flames.

Franklin police responded to the home in the 600 block of Chestnut Street, April 11 around 10:35 p.m., after a resident said her home had been burglarized. When officers arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.

A Virginia State Police Arson Investigator responded to the scene to evaluate the nature of the fire.

Investigation by police led to the arrest of 36-year-old Trenton Darnell Gatling. He was arrested the next day after being spotted at a business on Armory Drive. Gatling was charged with breaking and entering. Further charges are expected upon lab results of evidence submitted from the fire.
