Through December 2019, the Virginia Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) will be conducting a study of Virginia’s workers’ compensation system. In addition to several other topics, the study team is reviewing Virginia’s disease presumptions, determining whether the requirements for claiming or refuting them are reasonable, and evaluating how efficiently and effectively Virginia’s Workers’ Compensation Commission resolves disputes between injured workers and their employers.
In the course of this research, JLARC researchers will seek input from several different stakeholders, including firefighters, police officers, localities, insurers, health experts, and attorneys, as well as staff at the Workers’ Compensation Commission.
To ensure that our researchers are able to obtain input from firefighters across the state—who are key stakeholders for the study—we have developed an online survey. The survey is designed for active or retired professional and volunteer firefighters who have been injured on the job or diagnosed with a work-related disease within the past five years, as well as health and safety officers at Virginia fire departments. The survey will be available on our website through September 6, 2019.
