Roanoke County Firefighter and Paramedic Honored for Fitness Program

A Roanoke County fire fighter and paramedic is recognized for his work organizing the department’s wellness and fitness program.

Under David Jones’ leadership the department put the program together back in 2004.

Jones was honored by the Western Virginia EMS Council for his work.

Jones and other fitness trainers assess each member’s heath once a year and then work with members on a work-out regimen.

“We’re always running calls of helping people, so our wellness and fitness team wanted to find a program to help ourselves, each other and that would be the wellness, fitness program that we’ve developed,” said Jones.

Jones says seeing the results in the 150 men and women he evaluates each year is proof the training is needed.

Jones is now up for a 2014 Governor’s EMS award.
