Training Program for Solar Systems

Posted & filed under News.

In Virginia, the number of residential and small commercial rooftop solar electric systems has grown from fewer than three hundred in 2010 to over 3,700 today. While we hope the use of these clean renewable energy systems continue to grow, there is a potential risk for firefighters responding to fires at solar powered facilities. The International Renewable Energy Council (IREC), in conjunction with the International Association of Fire Fighters, with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s SunShot Initiative, has developed a free, self-paced, interactive, online training course designed to give firefighters the knowledge necessary to feel confident and safe when responding to fires on PV-equipped structures—and to better understand the potential hazards.
